I've tried many AV programs over the years and the fastest AV program I've ever used is Nod32 - nothing like it, leaves Norton, AVG, Kaspersky & Panda standing.
Great protection doesn't have to slow down your computer. Written largely in assembly language, NOD32 continually wins awards for the fastest performance of any antivirus application, on average 3 to 34 times faster than the competition (source: Virus Bulletin). Switch to NOD32 and upgrade your computer's performance.

Hello,
(ANS) I can highly recommend AVG Free anti virus (the latest version is V 7) its a VERY good program & its completely free and comes with free daily updates.
http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/
**AVG Free comes with all the same features & functionality that you would pay alot of money for in another program such as McAfee or Norton.
**Personally I think AVG Free is MUCH better program than Norton Anti Virus, I took Norton off my system because it slowed everything down. AVG Free has a much smaller foot print and uses less system resources too, whilst doing an excellent job. The programs resident sheild has saved my system many times over from nasty trojens & virus infections.
10 out of 10, You'd be hard pushed to find a better AV program, paid or otherwise! IMO.

I like AOL Active Virus Shield. Don't let the name AOL fool you. Active Virus Shield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world.
In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, Active Virus Shield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test.
Full test chart is here:
http://www.virus.gr/english/fullxml/default.asp?id=82&mnu=82
Active Virus Shield has excellent virus detection rates and is extremely light on using your computer resources. (6mb ram)
Active Virus Shield detects and removes spyware, also.
And it updates up to 15 times a day with new virus definitions, 7 days a week.
Good stuff, free for everyone from:

AVG or NOD32 are the least resource-intensive AVs. Avoid Norton and McAfee.

Well if you have a Virgin Media Broadband connection like myself then I definitley recommend the Virgin PC Guard on their website. It works like a charm for me.
If not then I would say AVG which can be downloaded on
http://www.download.com
Download is run by Cnet and is great for new software and games that can be dowloaded for free.

Trend Micro PC-Cillin, used it for years and it works a treat.
Recently renewed until 2009, it's that good!
It's not the cheapest but it works well.
