It could be an allegory as you so claimed, but I would think that it's a mere coincidence; since at the time of publishing (Frank Miller's graphic novel), the anti-Iranian sentiments hadn't hit full-blown proportions. Also, the Persians weren't the only enemies the Spartans had to go up against.

It's a movie based on a comic that existed long before all that, but i found it myself an odd coinsidence that the movie had to come out now. On the other hand the Spartans are hardly to compare to americans, actually they are kind of the oppposite to americans. They had a very isolated, not imperialistic, communistic sort of society. They became militarists merely because they were always terrified of a slave revolution within, not because of imperialistic reasons. Furthermore in the movie it was the other way around: the persians were the super power, like the us is today. The spartans in the movie were defending their land and honour, although it was certain that they would die. If there is ever a combat between us and iran it will be the iranians who will be forced to defend their land. So i don't know. Maybe there is something to this thought, maybe it's a coinsidence.

No, it was adapted directly from the graphic novel by Frank Miller. This written before the whole Iran wants Nukes thing.

The graphic novel, in turn, was inspired by a movie in the 1960's about The Battle of Termopolyae, which was inspired by the actual historical event that started the Greek vs Persian wars.

It has nothing to do with war propaganda, it's just an awesome movie that's historical fiction about an event that happened over 2000 years ago.

300 is loosely based on an actual event....the film-makers have taken creative liberties to present a story to get maximum dramatic effect. It is NOT an accurate representation of history.

Even if it were, it would be ridiculous to think that today's Iranians are all exactly like the Persians of 400 BC. Every country has had war in its history.....that doesn't make the present generations the same as the past ones.

I think ppl are just trying to stir up a controversy where none exists. But sadly, there will be an ignorant lot who get carried away by this rubbish. I personally would not like to form my opinons about any country or its people based on a product of Hollywood.

No, it is not the way you are thinking. Bush and neo-cons could never be 300 Greeks and the persians could never be the latter. Persians attacked Greece to destroy their democracy and in this case it is the opposite story. 300 is actually based on the epic war between Greek and Persians which ultimately made Greece democratic. If you watch the film, you will observe that it is the remix version of once made film called 'The Battle of Thermopylae'.

That was my first thought after leaving the movie... but I'm afraid it's a bit to obvious to really come from our Government. I think propaganda would be more subtle than that, the only way it could be more obvious is if the Spartan leader was named G-Dub.

By the way, great movie subject, acting, action... but totally cheesy delivery from the directors and editors... the cheesy coloring, the music score was over done, it seems they stole scenes straight from The Gladiator with the wheat field mother/son scene. It looked like a stupid comic book fake-realism wannabe... it had all the making of a great movie, and yet parts were over done... the voice of the bad guy, 40ft tall elephants, mutants everywhere?!! So close to a great movie yet so stinkin cheesy. It's as if it were made by a bunch of 45 year old frustrated nerds who never knew women, or the comic book store guy from The Simpsons was put in charge of directing it...

Yeah, seriously doubt it was meant as propaganda...

This is definitely part of a propaganda campaign in preparation for an attack on Iran. It covers every single one of the justifications that Bush has been talking about:

1. The Iranians use ninjas.
2. They also have 40-foot tall elephants and huge war rhinos that they ride into battle on.
3. The Emperor of Iran is an 8 foot androgynous biker who must be stopped.
4. Iran is at this very moment invading New England with millions of soldiers. THIS VERY MOMENT.
5. Hunchbacks are evil and anti-American traitors who will sell us out to the aforementioned Emperor of Iran.

What an idiotic question.

on top of everything eles that others have said. the persian empire, died 2000 years ago, the lands were invaded by among others, the huns, the khans, and i think the romans, so the people that the persians were, is not who are the Iran, or Iraq is today. Oh Islam came about 700 AD, and the persians were in about 500 BC., that is 1200 years for someone like you.

you think of that movie replaced into propaganda? for sure you have an fairly severe opinion of the wide-unfold American's intelligence. 0.5 of them do not even comprehend that Persia is what Iran was once. that is observed as a movie because of the fact that could be a artwork of FICTION based loosely on certainty. aside from the names of the gamers and the area of the conflict the movie replaced into all imaginitive license consistent with a comedian. that's the way it relatively exceeded off...

Sheesh, another lib ignorant of history. Don't you people ever read??

The movie represents the Spartan leader Leonidas I, who led 300 Spartan troops against Xerxes, leader of the Persians at the Battle of Thermopylae.

The US has not engaged in battle against the Iranians. And we certainly would not be symbolically represented by the Spartans.......they lost to the Persians, and we would certainly not lose to Iran.

Your post truly shows how your pre-programmed lib agenda overrides your brain and your ability to reason.
