Is it not part of the Military to provide secury for those executives? Then why do you need military?

The same reason the military has turned over stateside support jobs to civilians.

Believe it or not, when you consider benefits and retirement, the civilians actually end up costing less money.

The contractors guard facilities and convoys, thereby freeing up combat troops for offensive operations.

The sad thing is...these private contractors work along side our military, doing the same job, and in some cases, making 5-10x more then then our people in uniform.

Wonder what that does to those peoples will to fight.

While one argument is that mercenaries may be cheaper in the long run, as the state accepts no responsibility for their medical treatment or pensions, the real reason is to avoid the laws regarding the use of the sevices and methods of operation allowed them.

This is about evading Congressional oversight and accountability.

The US military is not allowed to guard civilians as a security force, hence the private security detail when Bremmer was there.

As far as the people who think they do not have to follow the rules, please research the laws both local and international that they must follow. They are far less protected than the military as the military is not allowed to be tried for war crimes, the us military anyway.

Companies worldwide that elect to do business in Iraq hire these contractors for security for their workforce. It is not our militarys mission to provide body guard service to these individuals. This is a good thing and frees up US forces for other duties.

Even poor high school dropouts learn when the body bags fill up. Mercenaries are paid big money to die and be dragged through the streets. They have usually killed or wanted to kill before.

They do not have to listen to pesky moral or legal issues like no torture or unwarranted murder...and if you pay them enough they will die just as quick as, maybe quicker than, a US trained killer.

Most of them are armed forces alums anyway. The bad apples trying to put away a nest egg before their legs get blown off or they are decapitated.

Large in comparison to what? Priva5te contractors are often hired to protect executives and officials not connected with the military.

If you want to save about $10 billion, let the solders do their jobs.

There are people here walking around that I can't even tell you what they do!

One exception. I know KBR takes alot of grief from people, but they are probably the best support system we have. I can't say anything bad about them. They are good people and do the job.

I still can't tell you what DISA, does. I don't even think THEY know, it's so "top secret".....

though it's illegal to bribe the administration, a simple and obvious loophole is to agree to a bribe to be paid at a later date. be assured, after the admin. is replaced in the next election, bush, cheney, rove, et al. will be recieving kickbacks amounting to several hundred million dollars from all of these contractors including Halliburton. I guarantee it.
