Definitely read Captains and the Kings by Taylor Caldwell, that one will make you think.
Anything by Douglas Adams.
Also, check out Shogun by James Clavell, or (if you haven't already read it) Cathcher in the Rye by JD Salinger.
If you like non-fiction, check out The World is Flat by Thomas Friedman or Odyssey of an Eavesdropper: My Life in Electronic Counter-Surveillance and My Battle Against the FBI by Martin Kaiser.
Hope this helps!

Of course the best sellers are always a pretty safe choice. I like finding new authors and reading their offerings. I just finished a very unsettling book called Terror in America - You Are Not Safe! It made me think - a lot. It also made me start to look around more during my daily routines. (There are videos about the book, and lots more stuff at the link below.) Happy reading!

"In The Garden" series, The key series, and The Chesapeake Bay series... all by Nora Roberts.... best books ever. ESPECIALLY the garden series. My grandma reads her books and i was reluctant to pick one of them up for that reason.... but, to my surprise, they were the best books I've read in a while so it's not only for old people as i thought. (i'm 18 yrs old) and incase my grandma were to read this, i'm not calling her old.... lol

Hey Gatekeeper: One that made me scratch my head was Moby Dick. I've read it twice and I'm still trying to figure it all out.
