A prime number is an integer which cannot be divided by any other integer to provide a non-decimal result.
A factor is a number that can be multiplied by another number to get the number you're looking at. For example, 3 x 5 = 15, so 3 and 5 are factors of 15.
So you're looking for numbers that can be multiplied to get 48 and 49, and also are not multiples of any other number.

prime numbers are numbers which have exactly 2 divisors, 1 and another number, other than 1 itself. eg. 2 - that is 1 x 2 = 2 (no other divisors), 3 - 1 x 3 = 3
4 is not a prime number as : 1 x 4 = 4, 2 x 2 = 4
Factors of 48: 1 x 48, 2 x 24, 3 x 16, 4 x 12, 6 x 8
Factors of 49: 1 x 49, 7 x 7
hence, prime numbers which are factors of 48 and 49 are 2, 3, 7.
just another important note: 1 is not a prime number (don't
ask me why, it's the law of mathematics)
answers to your additional questions:
factors of 36: 1 x 36, 2 x 18, 3 x 12, 4 x 9, 6 x 6
A common factor is a factor which exists in both 48 and 36 (in this case). so highest common factor would be 12. (you're correct)
A common multiple is:
an example - multiples of 5
5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40, and so on
multiple of 10:
10, 20 ,30 ,40, 50, 60, 70 and so on
common multiples of 5 and 10 (as far as i listed):
10, 20, 30, 40
i hope it makes sense to you.

First of all, list the factors of 48 and 49.
A factor is a number in which can be multiplied by another number to get your answer. It can be used to divide your number evenly. An Allwords.com definition gives "One of two or more numbers that, when multiplied together, produce a given number."
A prime number is a number that is positive and can not be divided by a number other than 1 or itself to get an answer. Mathforum.com gives the definition "A number p is prime if it is a positive integer greater than 1 and is divisible by no other positive integers other than 1 and itself."
Factors of 48:
1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24, 48
Factors of 49:
1, 7, 49
If you were the list the prime numbers that occur in both numbers together, they would be:
1,2,3,7
For numbers that appear in both numbers, the only prime number would be 1.

48 has prime factors 3 and 2. 49 has prime factor 7.
There are therefore no prime numbers which are factors of both 48 and 49.
A prime number is a number not divisible by any number other than itself and 1. 1 itself is not considered prime.
An integer a is a factor of integer b if there is no remainder when b is divided by a.

prime numbers are numbers that are divisible by 1 and itself. for example 1,2,3,5,7,11,13,17,19,21,23,29,31,37,39. Factors are two numbers when multiplied together make another number, I believe. I can only assume you have to break down 48 and 49 into prime numbers and then see what that is when multiplied that may give you a prime number. When you do that you get from 48 2 * 3 * 8. 49 is 7 * 7. 8 isn't prime so leaves you with 2,3,7,7 I may be wrong just question seemed fuzzy though...

A factor is an integer that divides into a larger integer.
A prime number is a number that is only divisible by
itself and by 1.
48 = 2^4*3, so its prime factors are 2 and 3
49 = 7^2, so its only prime factor is 7

An (integer) factor A of an integer B is an integer such that B/A is an integer.
A prime number is:
1. an integer
2. has no integer factors other than 1 and itself
3. is not the number one.
It impossible for consecutive integers to have a common prime factor, as this prime would have to divide their difference (1) as well. impossible by (3.) in the definition. So unless 1=2, there are no answers to this problem.
im seeing a lot of ppl say false things after me here haha, i repeat :by definition, the number 1 is NOT a prime number.
You could streamline the definition of prime number by simply saying it is a number with exactly two distinct factors.
