Yes, there are differences...assuming you can figure out exactly which dialect of UNIX you're comparing to which dialect of Linux (and there are quite a few of both). An excellent reference (and list of examples) for the many differences between dialects can be found at the UNIX Rosetta Stone page (link below). Visit this page and take a look at how many different operating systems are listed. See how many different commands are used to perform the same basic task, for example, managing user accounts or displaying the system hardware configuration or checking your swap space.
