I have this thing. I don't like to say I'm sorry. at least not to anyone that doesn't quite matter. Like in the grocery store, if I bump into someone I just say "oops". it's not bad manners, I just have this thing where I feel like if I apologize I feel they think they're superior to me or something. It's patronizing. So if you're apologizing you have to really mean it. So final answer, honesty.
