The "war" was WON from the moment that Saddam was defeated. The people did not fight the US to maintain that form of government, aside from some (not all) of Saddam's "army".

Next, we "helped" the country form a "democracy" and hold elections. A "president" was elected by the people of Iraq. Some factions don't want him to be president because he doesn't represent their form of their religious/political ideology. They are trying to displace him and his "government". This is a civil war! Iraqi against Iraqi!

So, who are WE fighting? Whoever decides to car bomb US!!! Could be either side, right? We get caught in the cross-fire! How can this be called a "war", with the some of our citizens demanding a "victory"??? Victory over who??

The only solution is to reach some sort of diplomatic compromise! We can't kill everyone who might use violent means to "disagree" with the present Iraqi administration; we must convince them that violence is not the way!!

To Bush Supp: Did you even read what I wrote? I guess not; that would have taken some effort!
I didn't say there was no fighting--I said we WON the "war" a long time ago----for all of those folks DEMANDING a victory! Your answer was no answer, and it supplied no intelligent dialogue. Why don't you READ, then THINK, then WRITE something that contributes to the discussion instead of trying to insult me?!

CJ--I gave you a "thumbs up" even tho' I am a very liberal Liberal, b ecause you took the time to explain and discuss--intelligently--the question I asked! Also, I somewhat agree with you--Where I disagree is when you say "cut and run". I keep saying I want the troops home, and I DO! But, I too, think there has to be some "form" to the withdrawal. I really don't think anyone means we should just get on a plane tomorrow and say "adios", But the longer we linger, the longer it will take for the Iraqis to get it together. We need to tell them you have ________(a specific amount of time), and then we're gone! (And just like disciplining children, we have to MEAN it!) If they want to keep "democracy", they will get it together. If they just wanted Saddam out and really don't fully embrace the ideals of a "free society", they'll get what they deserve. Why should their democracy cost OUR blood?????

You are right in that we have already won the war. The country of Iraq is now fighting an insurgency. It's just another type of war. We are helping the Iraqi people win their fight against insurgents who want to see this country fall to chaos. The Iraqi people want us here and are better off because we are here. I know, there are car bombs, murders, and IED's but that's better than the random rapes, political killings, and murders that were state sponsored under Saddam.

Our victory must be over the insurgency. We need to be here long enough to help the Iraqi Army get strong enough to fight and defeat the insurgents. We also need to stay here long enough to see the complete destruction of the Shiite Militias.

In reality, we're closer to that than the public sees. We just need the time and support to get it done. GEN "P" is on th right track.

This was never a war , it was actualy an illegal occupation of the place which own some rich resources......now whether bush call it a war or whatever.......it would not change the reality !I think Iraq was a free country and there are countries where the rulers are even worse than saddam.....so invading Iraq for teaching a lesson to saddam is such a funny notion.then MDW, where are they? again a lame excuse that these are transported to Syria infact found out an other excuse to attack Syria for this( Future Plan) and terrosirt?? where ? the army is fighting to innocent Iraqis who are fighting to them for their freedom and this is their ligitimate right to act like this afterall Iraq belongs to Iraqis not to US !

How do you compromise with a group out there that wants all of us D E A D ...unless we denounce our individual faith , and convert to Islam .. that would be the only to " talk to our enemies " I believe years ago someone talked , we became relaxed in our everyday life , we let our guard down , we became the country that thought no one can hurt us , we are not fighting Iraqi people we are fighting an extreme militant group , that does not care about anything except killing Americans , and destroying our Nation . If you wish to go there and show them love ,and affection , take them to dinner ,and talk to them , I will pay for your trip . This group is wanting to do nothing but bring on their Armageddon for the return of their god . That is why we should take your Idea , Lets give them what they want , then you will not be allowed to complain about separation of church and state without getting you head cut off . If they wanted to talk I believe they would have bought a cell phone instead of rocket launchers ,and car bombs . They are now after us for liberating Iraq , these extremest do not want to lose control ,and give personal freedoms to the people of Iraq. This group we are fighting took from us , we took Iraq from them , and to keep them overseas Iraq has become the battleground. Look on a map , Iraq is in the center of everything , the Saudi govt. is not going against us , Israel is at the back of us , in front ( to the east) is Iran , then you have Afganistan , and Pakistan , who will not engage us . We are in the middle having to work our way out . there are things going on that the Govt. will not tell , that would be like the local police advertising next weeks drug bust , which would alert the enemy . we only hear what is allowed for us to hear , they ( the news ) is not reporting everything , they can not ,and will not let every move be announced , so both sides of the media cater to their targeted audience to get ratings , just like politicians tell you what they think you want to hear just to get a vote , why do you think democrats want an end by Sept . 08 ....so they can take credit right before America votes in Nov. that is the only reason . Why , because they have heard Americans complain about the war ever since the media started complaining ,Amazing how so many who were taught not to believe everything they see on TV believes it now that they are grown ... If everyone was for the war , Hillary would have never opened her mouth, and Democratic ,and Republican voters would not be watching their favorite news channels to get their parties side of the war , and then log on to yahoo answers to argue over each others facts......that just so happen to come off of TV news entertainment channels that are a direct support to each party , Sence when did America start basing facts on what they saw on TV . Television only cares about ratings ,and having the most viewers , politicians only care about votes ,and getting more wealth at our expense , and we are the ones having to pay for it , we pay for the cable TV , and internet ..and we pay higher prices so companies can recover money that was slipped in to the politicians pocket .

I agree with some of what you're saying, in principal. But there is alot more to this story...

Say you drive away a gang from your house by force. They flee to the next block. You repaint your house and your fence, and it's looking better. But you do not post guard to protect your house and fence. Occasionally the gang slips into your neighborhood and vandalizes you. If you withdraw, you lose the house, the fence, and the neighborhood that you worked so hard to save. If you gradually build a reliable force to protect what you fought for, then you can turn that security over to them, and they will watch it for you.

We sent so many people to Iraq. And unfortunately, these fine combat troops have had to play referee in the middle of a centuries old religious dispute. And we truly need to turn their countries security over to Iraqi forces, no doubt. But until then, we need to maintain until that's possible. A staged withdrawl, when we know it's secure, is the answer. This "cut and run" policy that the libs are proposing is absurd. Those soldiers would come home with an uncompleted mission. And more than likely, we would end up back there to quell a civil war.

Stand our ground for now. Kill off the insurgency. Then do a phased withdrawl and replace our forces with Iraqi forces.

It is a war of aggression, and illegal by any international standard. In fact , it is a war crime, not a war.

The occupation is similarly illegal and an expression of murder for the residents/citizens of Iraq. Because some in Iraq profit fromt he occupation does not make the occupation legal - think Vichy France.

The only solution is for the USA to withdraw, be tried and a good portion of the executive, judicial and congressional leadership to have their heads removed, inspected and tossed away.

I agree we won the war and now we are acting as a police presence to maintain the Government as it gets established and does not revert to rule by a brutal minority...Hopefully that in the future soon we will have enough TRUSTWORTHY Iraqi police and soldiers trained we can get out.

i agree. the war was to do what we always do, remove an anti- american govt. and install a pro-american govt. problem is, our presence there draws thousands of faithful muslims from surrounding countries to Iraq to force out the foriegn crusaders, which is what their religion commands them to do. 3 yrs. ago, there was little civil strife and few terrorists, but Bush had no intention of leaving, and slowly but surely, thousands of foriegn fighters are now there attacking U.S. forces.

I doubt there are even 2000 active foreign fighters there, yet we need 150,000 troops to defeat them! Obviously, our troops can't identify the good guys from the bad guys over there. No amount of troops will change that.

Bush now refers to the war on TERROR in Iraq. The cowards who support him, fear that terrorists will come here if we leave Iraq. Of course, smart people with balls realize that if we left the Mideast, the foreign fighters would go home.

I agree, it is an occupation.

Let Iraq split into 3 areas just like it was before the UK formed one country there. This is what they want! I realize that the oil companies do not want this. But it will save the lives of our US soldiers and many others.

Just in case- They will not fight us here if we leave. Unless this administration ignores the peril as they did on 9/11. It did happen on Bush's watch, you can't change that fact no matter how much you want to blame President Clinton!

There is no more Iraq war but an insurgency that is being waged by Iraqis who do not want the government established and supported by the Americans.

Ask the Iraqis who have lost kids & parents, husbands, wives, brothers and sisters if there's a war in Iraq. Ask them if there are any real 'winners' in Iraq (Other than the sham government).
