Well heck, I work at appleebees, so I can answer that.
The General Utilities (G.U.) Is a Dishwasher. Plain and simple.
The Expeditor (Expo) is the person who watches the computer screen opposite the cooks, and put the orders together and adds the sauces, spoons, bread, etc. that the cooks dont put on the plates. Also they call for runners to take the food. It IS a thankless job. and high pressure.

It really depends on the restaurant. But generally speaking, their job is to make sure the food gets out to the customer on time. So they might set plates up by putting sides and sauces on them, they might clear tables and get them ready for the food to arrive, or they might do whatever is needed to make sure everything happens on time. It's actually an important job. But after twenty years in the restaurant business, I can tell you that a good restaurant with efficient people doesnt need this. Unfortunately, there are not many people to fill the skill jobs, and they need expediters to help out. So if you are considering this job as a way into the restaurant business, I'd say go for it. You will learn everything there is to know about running a restaurant.

And why do people like Barry Bonds and Brittany Spears make more than any of us? It's market forces, kiddo. Somewhere in the great scheme of things, assuming that your claim is correct, employers have probably offered fast food managers less money and couldn't keep them. This created a disruption in their business and as a result, your salary is what it is today. Simply put, if you were not worth your salary, you would either receive a pay cut or be fired. However, those who employ you have decided that the job that you do is worth $x. For the same reason, a registered nurse makes her salary. If it was not enough, there would be a shortage of nurses (which there probably is). If it were too much, those who are in charge of paying it would seek to lower it. One factor that might contribute to it is that your fast food restaurant may be doing better economically than a lot of hospitals. With the costs of health care rising, there may not be enough to give nurses the raises they want, even if they are warranted.

Expeditor is the one who helps the wait staff get the customers ready to go to the customer. And sometimes they help take the food out to the tables.

Bill is right with his explanation. This can be the TOUGHEST part in the kitchen, you have to listen to the servers complain that their food is taking too long, you have to hear the cooks complain when you send something back.... Many a days I hear the exchange of inappropriate words in the work place from the cook to the Expediter...
