i have investigated Islam in the course of my studies and have found that most of the "laws" that men use as an excuse to abuse women in Islam actually do not exist exactly as they are being applied. Its similar to the fundamentalist Christians who believe women are inferior because Eve was created from Adam, even though this is never explicit.
I have been considering converting to Islam after a life of agnosticism. It contains much more in the way of rights for women and praise for women than the bible. It is not specifically restrictive, almost nothing is actually required, those things are enforced by the male interpreters most of whom do not actually speak or read Arabic unless it is the Qur'an which limits the interpretation a great deal.

sorry this is a bit rambly, but it is a subject that is very important to me.

Statistically speaking a majority of non muslim women that eventually embrace Islam are usually married to Muslim men and consequently are exposed to Islam though marriage. Most people think that they convert because of pressure from the husband or his family...which in some cases is probably true...but also because they do research and come to the conclusion that its the right choice for them. This is indicated by the number of revert muslims that remain muslim and practice it even if they happen to divorce the muslim man.

Perhaps more women have the incentive to convert to Islam because of their boyfriend being Muslim

Those women mainly do it in order to please the guy. In the event of a divorce those same ladies go back to their own ways and habits. I had a cousin who converted to islam in order to get a guy and guess what he dumped her, and so you think she continued to embrace islam? NOPE!! Its as if she never converted, she is a member of some baptist church now. Women like that have no respect for religion in general, otherwise they could not be so fickle about it.

Because if they don't her family(or the government) kills her. A few weeks ago a muslim JERK walked up and shot a woman . Why??? Because she believed in women being able to work.Try some objectivity dude. Islam has plenty of skeletons in it's closet.

Propaganda, my ***.

When you hear about muslim men stopping paramedics and firefighters from entering a burning building to save trapped teenage girls for the sole reason that they weren't "properly covered" with their hijab..and then learn 14 of those girls burned to death as a result, it makes you wonder about women's rights in Islam.

When a beloved equal rights speaker is murdered in Pakistan and the man who did it says he was proud to uphold the Qu'ran laws and she deserved to die. How dare she appear bare headed in public?

When a woman needs four witnesses in order to prosecute her rapist, and is then in danger of an honour killing from her family...you have to wonder.

I don't know why non-muslim women are foolish enough to fall into this trap. As for the ones pressured into it by family, or brainwashed since birth, I feel sincerely sorry for them. But you can't help those who don't want to help themselves.
