According to Wikipedia, the name Utah is derived from the Ute Indian language, meaning "people of the mountains."
But according to Utah's government information website, Utah is named after the Ute tribe. I give the link below. The Ute is a tribe that once lived over much of Utah and all of western Colorado.

In the 1700's everyone there was really tall, and visitors to the state would say repeatedly "Wow, You Tall!"
So they named the state after that. Plus, they weren't the best spellers in the world. True story.
