Gestation diabetes at what point do insulin shots need to be used?

Am 27 weeks pregnant and am facing GD. What point do doctors initiate insulin therapy?

When the blood sugars can't be controled with diet.

I had GD and i ate well and watched my sugars, I never needed the insulin. You just need to eat like they tell you and exercise.
