I think so, if you can think of another owner of a team that has performed better, taken better care of their people, or been more of a 'top notch' bunch of people, make your argument...

Definitely Robert Kraft,he gets the right people in the management positions funded his own stadium and had won 3 bowls in6 years with a good possibility of a fourth coming.

I'd have to say that Bob Kraft would merit strong consideration. The Patriots have been to four Super Bowls and won three. Granted, there are differences in style between the Rooneys and Kraft, with Kraft operating more out of the public eye.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the Steelers were a generally horrid team before 1969. Something beyond the hiring of Chuck Noll as coach must have happened, but it is undeniable that somehow, the Rooneys got a whole lot smarter at that time.

Kraft has been smart from the beginning, so perhaps that would give him an edge.

I agree. The Rooneys have run one of the best and classiest franchises ever in the history of the NFL. They are very involved with the players and with the coaches. They also make sure there's a good relationship between the coaches and the players themselves. Hopefully they've made the right decision with Tomlin as well.

They like to be involved with the team and with the selection process of players. It keeps the team close-knit and low on clashes.

And, hey, what about the Rooney Rule? The Rooneys helped to make the NFL coach hiring process more fair on a racial level. And I have a feeling they may have benefitted from their own rule in choosing their first black Head Coach, Mike Tomlin. From what I have read, things are going well with him so far and the players are optimistic for next season.

Oh yeah, and they've also got 5 Super Bowl rings. Being tide for most Super Bowl wins doesn't hurt their cause either, now does it?

I would have to say that the Rooneys have been more consistant, longer than any other owners. The Mara family(NYG) is up there too. I would rule out anyone who has owned their team for less than 10 years. Definitely the worst would be the Ford family(Detroit), the Bidwells(Arizona), and Malcolm Glazer(Tampa Bay). Robert Kraft has been good since he bought the Patriots from Kiam. Modell and Irsay are middle of the road. They alienated fans by moving their teams, but they put the right people in the right places, and made their teams successful.

I say Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots...Hmmm...just that whole 3 Super Bowls thing, the team first mentality, not going for people like TO and Randy Moss because of the hype...and, oh...That guy named Tom Brady, the best QB in the league...and him winning with no top notch receivers except Troy Brown and Deion Branch

No. Robert Kraft is.

OK, everyone who said the Steelers were competitive every year under Rooney ownership, um, 1987. (Just picking a year after Bradshaw and before Cowher.)

Since Kraft bought the Patriots there worst finish was 5-11 once in Belichick's first year.

Did Rooney single handedly keep the team from becoming the St. Louis Steelers? Until he uses his ownership of the stadium to fight off a move, Kraft wins, hands down.

What's the mortgage payment Rooney has on Heinz Field? If you can't answer that, then Kraft wins hands down.

Kraft is not the best owner. He isn't involved the way the Rooney's are. Belicheck is the guy in New England.

The Rooney's have put a quality team on the field for 35 years. They treat every one in thier organization and other organizations with respect. They seem to know more about football than the other owners as well. Look at Greg Lloyd, Kevin Greene, Levon Kirkland, and soon to be Joey Porter. The first 3 fell apart after leaving Pittsburgh. Porter will too. Their knowledge is unmatched.

The Rooney's are the reason black coaches get interviews also. It's called "The Rooney Rule", Mara and Jones helped with it.

the rooney family is definitely one of the better families who own an nfl team...

the worst would HAVE to be the Jerry Jones, the Al Davis', whoever the hell owns the lions, and perhaps the Brown family... the kids need to buck up and learn something about the game of football.... Paul Brown sure knew how to run a football team...

Well, all the good answers are taken, but I can't believe no one has mentioned Daniel Snyder of the 'Skins as one of the worst owners.

Classiest. Not sure they are the BEST, although I would vote for them as the best because I am a Steelers fan. They bring in great talent to run the team and then let them do it. They are greatly respected in the NFL.
Oh and as to them knowing talent they have to. You know who FOUND "Fast" Willie Parker for the Steelers? It was Art Rooney II. Yeah that owner's son and maybe owner now. He was the scout of Carolina area for the Steelers while Willie was in HS as to finding him. They grow up being involved so no surprise they know the game so well.
