Just apply and see what happens. However, be prepared to be dig at by some insensitive fools during the interview. When it happens, just stay composed and go over the interview with style. When u r a rookie, gonna eat humble pie. Since u are going for a cashier position, it will be best if you could demostrated your honesty and integrity.

Fill out an application. Use your school classes if they tie into business in any way. When they ask you what position you'd be interested in it's best to say that you are open and would be glad to help them in any position they needed filled. And that you'd really like to have a cashier's position.
Do they still fill those with woman mainly? I was a stock clerk and part time cashier and bagger when we got busy, but that was a long time ago.

Ever "purchase" something for yourself? Ever "operated" a calculator? Ever "shopped" in a grocery store? Ever "counted change"? Ever "communicate" with anyone? Sure! You have done all of these things! So when you fill out your application you write down what job experiences you have had and choose your words carefully when it asks any special trades or skills! I am a great communicator with accounting skills and eager for a new challenge! When you interview shake their hand with confidence. Look them in the eye and never dog your past or current employers! They do not want to be added to a dog list! Dress nice! Have good breath and hold your head up! You are just what they need!

Try stressing other points that an employer could value:
If you have any job experience of any kind and you were consistently getting to work on time, highlight this.
If you have been able to solve issues with people, you could mention this skill.
If you are good at math, that could be a plus.
If you do other things which require manual dexterity, that could be in your favor.

Apply and state that you have no training in cash handling, and that you are more than willing to learn. Sometimes employers prefer to train their own staff to do things their way.
