OK go to start, then go to the run box and type

Here is another timer you can set as well.

Open the start menu click on run.
type 'cmd' press ok
at the prompt type 'shutdown -i'
when the window opens click 'add' and type your computer name (dont know it? - right click 'my computer' choose properties - click on the 'computer name' tab)
after you have added your pc name to the list - enter 3600 seconds for a one hour timer...click ok
7200 for 2 hrs, etc...

a window will pop up that you can drag down and place the top bar of the shutdown timer over the toolbar on the bottom of the desktop. it hides most of it, letting you finish your work.

Go to Control Panel and click on Power Options. You can set the computer to do things after certain time has elapsed.

right click the desktop

select the "screen saver" tab

select the "power" icon

From there you should be able to adjust the power settings to turn off after a certain amount of activity.
