I'm 16 weeks pregnant...and I have been having mood swings as well! I have understood it is due to the hormones...I certainly hope so! I think some women suffer more due to the high levels of hormones in the body. If you think it is abnormal maybe you can ask your doctor!

Getting in touch with your emotions will help. Yes, you are emotional when pregnant, but it sounds like you have issues with controlling your anger and frustration. This isn't going to be any easier once the baby comes, so it's good that you realize this now, while you have time to work on this. Attributing this to hormones takes the responsibility off of you and doesn't help alleviate the situations that cause you stress. If in fact it is hormones, there is a good chance that this will get worse postpartum. But there's hope. Stress can cause all kinds of things - from illness to early labour. Try everything and anything to help you deal with your emotions more effectively. Not only will this help you become a better mother, but make life easier for yourself and others, too! Patience is a good start. Good mothering is all about having excellent patience (it's hard but you can do it!). Good luck! And congratulations!

Sincerely,
Angel

The constant upset and stress will not be good for you or the baby. :( You really should try some calming techniques. Find something that soothes you... like taking a warm bath (not hot!), soaking your feet in a tub of warm water, taking a half hour to read or listen to music by yourself, etc... Try to get some "you time" every day. Also when you feel yourself starting to get angry try to catch it before you explode. Stop, close your eyes, take in a deep breath through your nose and exhale out your mouth... do this three times deeply and slowly. This activates a hormone (can't remember the name) that provides some instant stress relief.

It's okay to be a bit emotional when pregnant, we all are at times, but it's in your best interest to control your anger the best you can. Talk to you OB/GYN about this they may be able to provide some other ideas for dealing with the stress.

All the best!

lol, ah man I got to laugh. I am 31 weeks pregnant, and boy have I been there! I am a calm down to earth person, but when I got pregnant, PSYCHO girl emerged. Not so bad anymore, but I was constantly mad, angry sad, crying hysterically, etc. Of course its not excellent for the baby, but its your hormones, and im sure as long as your not physically harming yourself, your fine. I know how hard it is though. If anything, the baby is probably in there thinking, "man I wish this woman would shut up and get a grip!" :-) hope you feel better, and more than likely, your moods will ease up soon. Good luck to you, and congrats! You can email me if youd like

I think being angry and upset is not good for anyone, especially a new little person that is growing with what seems to be a concerned and pregnant 18 yr old . I'm wondering if you know what it is that is making you bitter angry and upset. Maybe looking into what's making you feel that way may somehow help you with what seems to be your most sort after answer! I hope this helps..

Hi! I see you already care about this little one of yours. So, don't let anybody harm him or her, even yourself. Keep it low and dry, more singing (even in showers), some counting to 10 (or may 20 as exception) before yelling. My friend took a big bowl to see how much she cries. It made her laugh every time she tried to cry more to get more tears.
One good thing - you know that IS a problem! Working on it hard, but at least it's a good start!
Good luck!

Why are you upset? In this time you have to spend more time to planning your future.
Just try one thing- keep your eyes close for 5 min. and think about your new borne baby when he arrived in this beautiful world, smiling, crying, and doing some funny things then open your eyes you feel relaxed. Every time you have to think about your baby and try to keep busy yourself.
It will badly affect to your baby if you continually crying or fill angry.

I don't know if it can scientifically hurt your baby! ... But I know it is not good for you , for your baby, and anyone around you! when you get really upset, try to take a deep breath and think about a better way to react. Find a place you can go sit by yourself when you need to get away, and try to find a friend or acquaintance to talk to!

It might harm your relationship with others.

Just get a hot fudge sundae and deal with it.
