Many cities in America are plain broke and using laws such as bicycle helmets and jaywalking as a means to rake in fines. Yet when serious crimes occur such as assult with a deadly weapon, they drag their feet as to do anything at all... So honesntly, how can you claim to be cracking down in the name of public safety, when serious crimes aren't being touched at all. Espically when they now seek to put traffic cameras on every street corner they can get away with!!!

Was attacked by 4 people, one with a beer bottle managed to fight it off, they are dragging their feet about doing anything nearly killed me, yet my little brother had a run in with cops over his friends drinking underage they hauled him in, the cop car door hits one of their legs, they call it assult, yet all 3 of his friends saw it was them opening their door putting him in....So, one offense nearly kills someone, the other does nothing. So you ask me???? I'm getting sick of the B.S.!!! If the right wants power so bad declare a civil war.. and lets settle it once and for all. Oh yes, the other side knows how to shoot back... Quit using basic laws for the sake of a power grab. If you want all out power then declare it as such and let's settle this proxy civil war, one and for all!!!

Racketeering? Criminal Syndicalism? Fraud? Official oppression? Yea- about the cop thing. A friend of mine was pulled over by two town clowns in my city for alledgedly running a stop sign (hidden completely by low branches). To make a sad, long story short, the pigs beat him up and slammed his head off the driver side door of his car. The one pig hurt his finger in the assault and my friend was additionally charged with "aggravated assault on a pig". My friend does not drink or do drugs. Eight other people witnessed the entire ordeal and testified at the preliminary hearing. The District Justice dismissed all charges against my friend. Three nights after this, one of the pigs was caught in bed with a 16 year-old girl by the girls father. Dad just wore himself out beating the pig into acoma. Isn't JUSTICE grand?? Additionally, it is my extreme pleasure to inform all that Dad faces no charges, pig is out of his coma and is facing up to twenty years in prison, and pig #2 was busted for having kiddie porn on his home computer. Again- isn't JUSTICE grand??

Trying to pay for all of the services people expect without raising taxes. They are similar to all of the usage fees we see on cell phone, hotel, rental car , & other bills. A way to collect revenue from a group who either aren't likely to oppose it, or have no reasonable basis to do so (like speeding).

They need more money to have police to react to violent crimes. The folks who give parking , helmet , & other nuisance tickets require far less pay & training.

As for red light cameras all I can say is " Don't run the light!" You only get a citation if you enter the intersection after the light turns RED. If folks could grasp this we'd have fewer injuries, deaths, & traffic tie ups!!

Sounds like your city doesn't have a very secure tax base. Consider moving. Chicago, where I live, has also lowered itself somewhat in trying to gain revenue. The newspapers and media watch their every move. How can they justify pay raises and then Denver boot people for two unpaid parking tickets? Paying the parking tickets is justified, but paying $150 to unboot your car? Ridiculous.

It's called EXTORTION. When raising taxes isn't going to get someone elected, they raise the fines on everything. Typical Liberalism.

Normal government operations. Sadly.

Your recourse is to speak out and get different politicians elected.

So what you are saying is that you would get a ticket if riding your bike with no helmet but if you were shot then they'd figure no money was in it and just leave you there?

Wake up.

Sounds like a crazy way to finance a city. Better to tax the rich.
