I own a shop, and build engines. The "73" 455 is not a high horsepower engine, as it was at the beginning of the introduction of the new smog rules. It is a low compression engine that only makes around 250 horses. Some more, and some less. It also depends if you are talking about at the crank or at the rear wheels. With a little up grading this engine it can be made into a monster. One can add some flat top pistons, have the heads done, add a set of headers, and do some work on the distributor, and you got one that will melt the back tires off the car.
Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!

That depends on a lot of things. Condition of the engine is probably the biggest factor. Also, if you only wanna know how much power the engine produces, the condition is the only factor to really consider, provided that the motor is still completely stock, but not all of that power getrs to the ground, things that will affect this number are options like power steering, 'cause it takes power to turn the power steering pump, which transmission does the car have? Auotmatics take away more power than manuals, and the list goes on. The only way to know for sure is to take the vehicle to a shop that has a dynomometer (dyno) and have it tested, but this engine with a four barrel carbuerator and an automatic transmission, and power steering should be able to get close to three hundred if it's in decent shape. Hope this helps you my friend.
