Spent some time in jail so wasn't working but my ex girlfriend is still looking for child support for those months. We have an arrangement that I was paying a small ammount per month but I just don't have the money to pay her.

Let your conscience be your guide. Of course you do. She has suffered the burden of caring for your child. Now it's your duty to repay her and show your appreciation. Thank her from the bottom of your heart that she was able to shoulder the burden by herself. Get out there and do your duty even if you need to miss a meal or two.

Of course you still have to pay. You must not have been working before you went to jail as most states allows people out of jail just for work. I sure hope your way of thinking doesn't rub off on your child.

Your payments will accumulate while you are in jail, yes. There is no break in them just because you are locked up or unemployed. The courts set the child support amount and require them to be paid on the times set. If you do not pay them on time, you will end up in arrears.

Yup, you have to pay no matter what, even while in jail. Child support doesn't stop for jail, layoff, etc. You have to stop thinking of yourself & think about your child. He/she needs for you to be an example of a good man & do the right thing. Be there for him/her financiallly, physically, etc. Work as much as you can & stay out of trouble. That child will appreciate it in the long run. Good luck!!

of course they will build up they want you back in jail asap it keeps allot of guards and police jobs, the police love child support offenders , it's someone they can arrest with little Chance of getting shot at, the guards love child support offenders because they are non violent and easily managed and most of all it helps to keep them all, Judges, cops, child support enforcement and the guards a job, it is good for the economy for you to be put away!!! sick country huh?

While imprisioned, you can get a document that will defer child support payments until you get out. Since it is deferred, it's still owed. Just remember, you can go back to jail for being a "Deadbeat Dad."

for those months you were in there, the child still had needs; to be fed, clothed, heat, electric, roof over head, etc.

shes right, the arrears build up while in there- they dont just stop because you made a mistake and were in jail.

its hard on everyone involved; you, the ex, the child...

Your child still needed food, a place to live.

Sounds like you need another job. Children are very expensive.
