My name is Christopher, and I have an uncle who is Michael.

I know my parents almost named me Jack, but named me Christopher because it had Christ in it.

Some people like traditional names, some do it after family members, and if you really think about it those names are not used as much anymore everytone is coming up with ither things and those are soon going to be unique names. Just recently the Social Security Admin. released the top names of 2006 and Mackenzie was number one for girls but it was nowhere close to the number that number one names have had in the past and that was with them combining all 360 somthing spellings of the name. When I was in school we had maybe 2 chris' and 1 ashley and no michaels.

Because at one time Christopher, Michael and Ashley used to be as POPULAR as Aiden, Brianna and Sierra are today.

it's called a FAD. i have a 'fad' name from the 70s that my mother had all picked out when she was still a very young child. it was an uncommon name back then..but when she had me it was VERY common. so what..it's my name. my mother put a lot of thought into it most of her life. she had her heart set on it...and being a parent now i can completely understand how she felt.
it's really none of anyones business other than the parents WHY one name is picked and not another...
should we have the baby name police or something?

you call these names 'boring' that is open to interpretation quit frankly.
not everyone likes naming their kid something SO off the wall or 'unique' (an over used word for crazy names these days).
and a lot of times they might be family names...honoring those generations that are moms, dads, aunts and uncle that happen to have those 'unoriginal, boring' names.

Those names are still popular. I guess people name their children those names because it's traditional, easy to pronounce and the child will not be discriminated against before they are seen. Hey, it sounds better thana lot of these wild names they have now.
