Used to be that you could. Today, there are all kinds of situations that happen and when somebody your age is left alone, your parents could get into big trouble. The horror stories of children with baby-sitters you age are deadly. There are jobs like walking dogs, doing light cleaning, lawn work, and other jobs that people (like me) would be glad to pay for if they knew somebody who would do them. If you want to help with my house work, you are hired. Good luck. Working is good for you.

Well, that's kind of a loaded question. My answer would be to talk to your parents and then if they're ok with it, take a babysitting and basic first aid course, then spread the word that you're able to babysit and let the kids' parents decide if you're old enough. Some parents might be comfortable with a 12yr old babysitter, others may not be.

Personally I don't think I'd be comfortable unless I wasn't going far and I knew the girl very well. But it never hurts to try.

I would not let a 12 year old care for my children without another adult present in the home. The law might state 13 is "legal to babysit" but I wouldn't do that either. Sorry.

First of all you are too young to be on this site.
Now to your question; there are no laws in most states as to how old you must be to babysit. They do have recommendations and twelve is usually the recommended age. My twelve year old daughter made sixty dollars on Sunday babysitting. She has three younger brothers and a baby sister so she has a lot of experience and is mature. Your mom probably knows if you can handle it.

Yes. I personally wouldn't hire anyone under the age of 16.

You sound very responsible and mature for your age and i'm sure you are very patient. I would wait a year till it's legal for you to babysit before trying to get a babysitting job. Good luck young lady.

i stayed home alone when i was 10, and i babysat a newborn when i was 12, even though im an only child, ive had alot of experience with kids, and maybe you should just start out by helping out with the parents there, so they can see how responsible you are and they can tell if youre ready

Although you have experience and feel as though you could do it, parents will be reluctant to leave their children in the care of someone they will see as "another child". As unfair as it may seem, people just won't be able to trust you, simply because of your age.
I'm a parent, and even if I knew you well, I just couldn't leave you in charge of my children just yet, sorry. Maybe at 16.

Twelve is not too young. My recommendation is to check with the nearest hospital on CPR classes. Get certified by taking the class, then you have the credentials to let parents know that their child is safe with you.

Good luck!

Yes you are too young, not many people would trust a 12 year old with their kids

I would not allow a 12 year old to stay home alone let alone watch my yonger child... so would have to say yes. At your age my child would still have a babysitter.
