Open the .fla file with Macromedia Flash Pro 8. Then find either the Publish or Export button. I'm not that familiar with Macromedia Flash.

.fla is a specific file to be used in Macromedia Flash, which is the editor file for the flash. The flash file is a result of .fla file.

I haven't used Flash since Macromedia had it and the version was 4, so it has been a while. That being said, in that version, you would just load the *.fla into the Macromedia Flash program and then use the export function. The Export function (or command, whatever you want to call it) should be under the File menu. Select File and there should be something that says export. When you run your mouse over that command (actually, it is a menu item, now that I had time to think about it), you should see SWF. It is just like saving any other type of file.

Hope your version is similar, if it isn't, then I guess it won't work. There should be a export menu item somewhere.

you just go to the file menu and publish to save your fla file as a swf, but you can't change a swf back to a fla once its been compiled
