or a rickenbacker pickup in a gretsch, can it be done is it feasible?

Sure it is possible. You may have to adjust the guitar cavities for the shape of the pickups and do some funky wiring, but when it comes right down to it, you can put any pickup in any guitar.

Keep in mind that the designers take great pains to match pickups with guitars so your modification may not be so pleasing when it comes to sound or appearance.

I would think so. I have swapped pick-ups in and out of guitars for years although i haven't swapped a Fender for a Gibson. To do that some body routing would have to be done on the Fender to make the Gibson pick up fit. The wiring is a bit different and would have to be redone. Gibson's hot and neutral are different colors also from Fenders.
