What can I do if I want to stop using email clients (Thunderbird) but still want to keep all the messages?

The easy way would be to tell it to forward all your emails to a web based email account (like Yahoo).

forward all the content you wish to keep to your new email address so you will have a copy in that file. if you won't have another email account after thunder-bird, i suggest printing them out. you could also save all the text to a flash drive.
