Will taking calcium supplements after menopause help prevent osteoporosis?

Yes, Calcium and Vitamin D are excellent for helping to prevent osteoporosis. However, you should still have a bone density scan at least annually. If you are at risk for osteoporosis (family history, estrogen therapy, etc.) you should talk to your doctor about progesterone therapy. Estrogen decreases bone density and progesterone increases it. Every woman needs the perfect balance. If your doctor doesn't want to talk to you about it, it is worth getting a second (or third) opinion. Your body has had these hormones since before you were born. Just because you go through menopause doesn't mean your body doesn't still need them. Another person to talk to is a Pharmacist who compounds Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. Not your typical CVS or Walgreens pharmacist... a pharmacist specializing in this area. I know several where I am from. If you are interested I can probably help you find one in your area. Good luck.... and remember, you can't always see what is going on in your body!

Good nutrition will help ease the symptoms of menopause by supplying a changing body with the nutrients necessary for optimal health throughout this transitional phase.Get enough calcium. A woman going through menopause needs 1000 mg to 1500 mg of calcium a day. Avoid excessive amounts of salt to reduce bloating associated with hormonal changes. verify with your wellbeing practitioner or wellbeing nutrition save, yet a multi nutrition would not incorporate adequate Vit. D and calcium to harm you while you're taking one extra supplement of the supplements.

Yes and milk is an excellent source of calcium. On PMS (pre-menupausal or post menupausal) this is payback time for women who gave milk and love to their children. However if some women are sensitive to milk, try other natural calcium rich sources like fish and other seafood.
