uuh the doors of course! for me, it's not even a question! if you had asked the beatles or the doors, that would have been more complicated! the doors are so much deeper than curt cobain screaming in his microphone... the doors had poetic lyrics and the organ sound was so original - nirvana is well dull! an electric guitar and drums and basta! you have yourself a nirvana type band. and the lyrics, what the hell? "and i swear that i don't have a gun, no i don't have a gun, no i don't have a gun, .... " compared to "the time to hesitate is through, no time to wallow in the mire, try now we can only lose, and our love become a funeral pyre" that's better... and the doors were so important to XXth century music, almost as big as the beatles! nirvana is way behind you know? before them there are other bands like led zep, sex pistols, the clash, aerosmith, ... haha i love the doors!

While I don't like the fact that Cobain and Morrison were drug users, they were backed up by good musicians, and developed their own styles. This is a tough question to answer. For the sake of argument, I will say The Doors. I say this only because they changed the face of music at the time. Wait a minute. Nirvana did that too. Okay then. I'll say Nirvana was better. Oh, forget it. Pink Floyd rules!

Two GREAT bands with two GREAT singers who were tragically taken before their time. Tough choice.
I'd have to say the Doors, though. Jim Morrison was an incredible vocalist and a legendary musician. The Soft Parade is unparalleled, and everything the Doors put out was either great or incredible.
Nirvana revolutionized music, there's no question of that. "The Man Who Sold the World" is one of my favorite songs ever. Apparently I saw Nirvana in utero (get it?) about a month before I was born. My mother insisted on going to see them, even though she was so pregnant she was about to pop. :-)
So all it really comes down to for me is personal taste, and while I love them both, I love the Doors just a millimeter more.

Hands down The Doors. The only reason why most people will say Nirvana is because they grew up in that Era. I bet half of them never heard Jim Morrison sing.

The Doors, they helped bring psychedelia into teh mainstream and their sound is so unique. Even without Jim Morrison's singing, you can always tell it's a Doors song. Nirvana never had their own unique sound without Cobain's vocals. And the Doors have influenced so many mucisians.

I am gonna say Nirvana due to the fact of the wide impact they have had in music. They molded, if not single-handedly created, grundge/rock into how we know it today...not to mention Dave Grohl of Nirvana went on to create the Foo Fighters.

i'll say nirvana. i don't dislike the doors, but i'm not a big fan.. nirvana did something really special. they were a rock band with actual integrity, honesty and feeling. kurt also knew a lot about getting a great guitar sound. you won't find that very often at all in 2007.

The doors because of the keyboardist. Without the keyboardist, I would say Nirvana.
