Don't it voids the warranty. Just call Microsoft and send it in they will fix it, normally at no cost, their really good about it.

Hi, what a load of crap answers you got. Go with one of the first ones about buying a cd lense cleaning kit. If that doesn't work here is how you take it apart.

Carefully peel back the rubber feet underneath to rreveal a screw. You are going to need a torx screwdriver to undo the screws. On the big safety sticker tere is another screw, just above where it says CE. The last screw is on the smaller silver sticker near the back of the xbox, bottom right of the sticker. You can now carefully prise the lid away from the base. Everything comes apart like a pc. I suggest you take photos of everything in case you don't remember how it goes back.

You say about swapping the hard drive but I think you mean the dvd drive. If you get another one try and buy the samsung version as its best one for the xbox. Will cost you about £30 off ebay though. Try the lense cleaner first.

If you go on the site below there all the instructions and diagrams showing you how it all comes apart.

I'm assuming that you want to use it again so a big hammer is out of the question. go with the cleaner disc, if that doesn't work you may need to replace the laser.

If you take your x-box apart this will void your warranty that you might have. Also you are not an expert in taking it apart and putting it back together. You could break it, be safe and just take it to an authorized x-box dealer.
