I'm not seeing how you can call it a monopoly. what would you like to see. a country run by city level government where each time you crossed town lines you would have to learn new laws. or would you rather we let the states call the shots, no wait, that would make this a confederacy rather than a democracy. well we could always make it a monarchy, then the king or queen would have a true monopoly of power. here no one actually has a monopoly. since congress can overrule the president and the president can veto congress and any citizen who wants to throw thier hat into the ring can challange any laws in court and possibly have them done away with that is kind of the antithesis of a monopoly. now if you are saying that the government regulates society, well that would be the function of government in the first place as I recall, and I challenge you to find me a single country in the world that does not have the same thing if not worse, going on.

Is it funny? No. It's kind of sad actually. The big centralized government we enjoy today, I believe, started at the beginning of the Civil War and has continued to swell ever since.

No , I think it's funnier how your understanding of English leads you to associate the word monopoly with our countries form of government.
Funnier still is the fact you just opened ANOTHER new account here four days ago to pose this "thought"

Businesses is monopolized by those who are in power. It is the aim of every politician, to use his position to have more profits for his businesses.
