A two sample t-test allows you to test the differences between two groups. ANOVA tests allow you to test the differences between three or more groups.
So as an example, if we gave a placebo pill to one group and a real pill to another group, and 64% of the placebo group stayed the same, whereas 34% of the real pill group stayed the same, you'd then use the two sample t-test to see if this difference was significance. If we had a third group in this research who were maybe given a special health food, then we would use ANOVA.
