Is an Ivy League school attendance really worth it? Or would it be more beneficial to attend a smaller scale university/college?

It really does depend on what you'd like to take away from the college experience. Of course the Ivy league does afford one the ability to make strong ties and good contacts for later life but I'm still not sure wether the quality of education is that much better than a respected public school such as UC Berkely or smaller liberal arts colleges. There are a new type of universities in America which newsweek describes as the new Ivies; depending what you want to do you may want to check them out.
Heres the link:http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14325172/. Sure the Ivies are great schools but alot of cutting edge stuff is coming out of the UC''s and universities like UNC -Chapel Hill, Carnegie Mellon, UV, NYU, UW-Madison....the list goes on! I suppose it comes down to this country having many great colleges and they are most certainly not limited to the Ivies.

On one hand, there's a lot of IMMEDIATE prestige and status given to an individual who graduates from an Ivy League school. And the Ivy League alumni network will work for you when you're looking for a job.
There will be less pressure and less stress on you to do well at a smaller university/college. And I understand that the social life at Ivy League schools is somewhat "stratified" by class distinctions while at smaller universities/colleges you would be able to "re-invent" yourself during the time you attend.
My personal belief is that the quality of a person's education depends more on the individual than it does on the school. It may take a lot more individual effort (read "work" here) at a "smaller" school but, in the long run, you will feel like you have accomplished more ON YOUR OWN. And I think that ultimately, you'd personally be a great deal happier at a smaller school than at an Ivy League school.

It depends on what you want to do career wise and what your projected major is. There is no point in going to an Ivy League school if you don't have the financial resources. Keep in mind that some of the top schools in certain fields are not Ivy League schools.

I would attend a very good smaller private school. Look for one that is ranked very well in your field. Ivy leagues are great for grad school, but for undergrad individual attention is key.

Ivy League is always worth it not only for the education you will receive but the benefit of peer and alumni networking. After you graduate, where you start depends largely on who you know. You can see how the benefits extend not just on your first job but where you go with your career.

undergo in concepts, Liberal in this usa is average everywhere else interior the international, extremely Europe, the place the rustic is a lot greater mature politically. no longer saying there is something incorrect with correct wing ideals (i'm certainly greater of a libertarian myself), only that a marvelous type of severe correct wing ideals are seen as absurd in lots of different places interior the international. extremely, the quantity of social administration promoted by ability of a few conservatives interior the U.S. is very alienating (ban on gay marriage, ban on abortion, discouragement of immigration). So, while somebody is going to a school to learn a cosmopolitan, greater state-of-the-paintings perspective of the international, that person's political ideals many times attain the middle of the international's stability. like the Greeks pronounced, that is all approximately moderation. additionally, I *in my view* do no longer think of there is one in each of those disparity of financial conservatives while in comparison with financial liberals, and that i think of they had be approximately even. i think of the disparity might take place between social conservatives and liberals. @Sickman Why might you be confident by ability of an English Literature substantial which you will desire to alter your political ideals =o I agree that folk have a undeniable point of intelligence that they advance certainly, yet you would be ignoring the no longer hassle-free artwork and keenness of persons to declare that better know-how can't be attained once you pass by years of faculty. to no longer say that obtaining a bachelor's or a grasp's in some thing makes you a certifiable expert on your field and more suitable intellectually, only that it would supply one lots greater credibility than somebody who lacks that kind of training. yet, on the subject of the doctorate, do you already know the way rigorous a doctorate application is? you're speaking no longer in basic terms 6 years previous of better discovering, yet a minimum of two greater years of in intensity training and a number of thesis papers creatively pushed out of your person know-how, and finally a dissertation, it incredibly is incredibly a tome of your educational know-how. So yeah, do no longer scoff off the doctorate :P
