First you buy a pregnant hamster (I know you didn't know), she has the babies, then lose mom, find mom, you asked about age of the babies weaning (good). Then today you want to feed the babies to a snake because the pet store won't take all of them, but you'll keep one. Now you want to kill her??? Are you crazy? Lots of people's hamsters chew on cages and I don't see them asking about killing their supposed pet. Tell you what, why don't you call a pet rescue tomorrow and let them take ALL the hamsters, because you don't need any of them with what I've seen written over the last weeks or so. It's the attitude of people like you that made me become a small animal rescuer. Too bad you don't live in southern WV because they'd all have a home with my family and not escaping, getting pregnant (I know you got her that way), being fed to snakes or wanting to be killed over bar chewing. They'd have a good life with loads of attention. Plus separate cages for each even if I had to go buy more. I know you said your a teen, but it's time for your parents to step in and take all those hamsters away until you can learn how to properly care for any animal, start with a pet rock and see how you do.
Hamster aren't on most of our time clocks and are up when we sleep and sleep when we're up, she's mainly bored.
Give her a toilet paper roll, a carrot (small one), or even a chunk of a cardboard box torn off to chew on. We have some chewer, but we never ask about killing them, we just give them something to do and give them a few minutes of play with us. Even if it's 3 AM.

This poster is asking stupid questions. Should we kill her?
What type of question is that? Of course not. Do some homework and learn about animals. You have an excellent response here from a person who actually DID do some research and learned how to care for his hamster. I strongly suggest you take that advice. Because if you moronically kill this hamster, but get another one, it most likely will also chew. The problem isn't the hamster, it's you.

I just got a new hamster and she also spent a great deal of time chewing on her cage, so I looked up information on hamsters online and found out how to try to prevent it. I read that hamsters will chew on the cage when they are bored. It is also really not good for them because it could mess up their teeth. I read that providing them with plenty of things to do is a good way to prevent such behavior. I have one of those balls for my hamster that I let her run around in for a short amount of time each day, which gives her exercise and gets her out of the cage and lets her explore. I also let her out of the cage and handle her and let her walk around a bit with out the ball. Also, you should make sure she has things to chew on inside the cage. Hamsters NEED to have things to chew on or their teeth will grow too much and they could die. I bought some wooden blocks from Petco and my hamster did not like them, but I did give my hamster a vegetable flavored dog treat and she enjoyed that. I also read that to keep your hamster interested and active, you should rearrange the cage every once in a while. I did all this, and she hasn't chewed on her cage in a while. If she doesn't stop after all this you should consider buying her a different kind of enclosure because this is not healthy for your hamster and she will just end up hurting herself.

I mean sure they make for a good soup, but i wouldn't do that to a little cute animal like a hamster. My daughter has two of the little creatures and she says that they are bored and want something to chew on. Get them a chew block or spray bitter apple on the bars to get them to stop. Hamsters are nighttime animals so they are up when most of us are sleeping.

No! Don't kill your hamster! Instead give it a piece of wood or a stick to knaw on. Your hamster just needs to chew on something to file down her teeth that are constantly growing.

Hamsters' teeth grow fast, so do rabbits', mice's, and rats'. They chew to file down their teeth, so their teeth don't get too long. Pet stores have certain things you can buy for your hamster to better help her file her teeth without choking on her cage. But don't kill her. That's just outrageous!!

Have you tried spraying bitter apple on the bars of the cage? Its harmless, just has a bitter taste and usually stops the animal from chewing.
