Many developing countries are poor because even though they have huge vegetation resources, the said resources are never converted into either useful materials or energy. For example, in almost all tropical regions (Asia, Africa, South and Central America) the palm trees grow in abundance. Take for example, the Coconut Tree. The averagely grown tree (which would normally live for about 100 years) would achieve optimum growth level, at about its 60 th year. At that time the average weight of a Total Tree is about 800 Kg (from root level to the top leaf tips). The average growth of such trees in many South Asian nations would be of the order of 175 trees per ha. And, if we consider that every tree of 60 year growth could be felled, the PER ANNUM PER HA AGRO-RESOURCES AVAILABLE WOULD BE ABOUT 2.5 TONS BY WAY OF FELLED TREES AND ABOUT 35 TONS BY WAY OF OTHER MATERIALS, INCLUDING THE COCONUTS.
It is suggested you may try to study the available and utilizable resources in the average Coconut Tree and by segregating the materials into cellulosic fiber systems and "sludge liquid" that could be squeezed out, FIND METHODS TO CONVERT THEM INTO USEFUL END PRODUCTS.
In this you need not try to use all the materials available; instead, you COULD TAKE UP TWO BASIC MATERIAL SYSTEMS (example The Tree Fronds/ Leaves system, Coconut "water") and develop some useful end products.
If the Products have good end usage, many developing countries would probably fund more developments. The available agro-resources in the form of such trees is very large indeed.

Honestly, any teacher that asks this sort of question is under cutting the process. How the heck can anyone have an "original idea" on demand?
That being said, I suppose what the teacher is looking for is for you to notice what's going on in your world, and to notice a "difficulty," and to "fix" it.
For example: in changing a tire, do people lose the bolts? Design a plastic thingie that holds them all together, so they don't get lost. Does your cat's litter box get full too quickly? Design one that's self-cleaning. Do your shoes not dry quickly enough when you come in from the rain? Design a rack that holds shoes and dries them simultaneously.
Really, it does not have to be practical. It just has to show that you have been looking at the world, and have been thinking about things that might make it "better."
I hate teachers like that. Who actually needs an electric boot dryer? What I'd like is an invention that makes stupid inventions unnecessary.

I remember that in the seventh grade i did a project called Caffienated plants (Dunno if i spelled that right) but, what you do is see if coffee effects the growth of plants, you can use radish seeds because they work the best. Just Like, .. have 4-5 pots, and fill one with all regular Potting soil, and the second with 1/4 coffee Grounds and 3/4 Potting soil, The second with 1/2 a cup of Coffee Grounds and 1/2 a cup of potting soil, and so on, you have to make sure, the same amount of seeds are planted, and you're giving them the same lighting and They're in the same area.and you're giving them all the same amount of water at the same time... I always hated science too.
