Judy Blume wrote the best teen girl books, but they're young teen, like 13-14. (Yes, I was raised in the 80's..:) I'm sure there are newer books for teens, but I'll never forget those books, I learned a lot from them. She wrote a lot of them and they were really popular, I still see them in the store.
If you're looking for one about "female stuff" then "Are you there God it's me, Margaret?" is great (it's not about God, either.I think the tile is because she asks for advice that way.) She also wrote older books, like "Forever", or "Deenie," but be careful, because if I remember correctly, that's how I learned about 3rd Base...:0 If you want to give it to a daughter or student, be sure they're old enough for that.
I read a lot, (I'm a teacher/reading specialist) and I've still never found better teen books . She just wrote funny books that explain things that teenage girls might be afraid to ask. "Blubber" is another one that deals with a girl being picked on at school. I can't wait to get these for my daughter, Cameron (she's 1yr.) The funniest one is about a boy with an annoying little brother named 'Fudge', but it's for younger kids. Good luck.
I'd look on Amazon, you can probably get her books used.

When I was a teen, the Judy Blume books were the perfect "teen" books, but they're a touch out of date for today. Instead, I highly recommend the Francesca Lia Block books.

For younger teens, I really like "Are you there god? It's me, Margaret." Also, the Anne of Green Gables series is great.
For older kids, I would suggest "To Kill a Mockingbird" or "The Secret Lives of Bees." (These have larger themes that older teenagers can probably relate to better.)
