That's a very good question. I think it's an instinctive response. Babies close thier eyes when they start to cry loudly. We also close our eyes when we flinch from something that suprises us. It might just be that making loud noises is an aggressive behavior and we associate that with danger so we close our eyes to protect them. Imagine chimpanzee's screaming at each other and having to close thier eyes because they might get into a fight.

Maybe nervous , don't won't to look at people's faces ( sometimes people can look so mean ) & sometimes the words mean so much & sometimes you have to in order to get the notes out.Or you just feel so good or the music is so good that it reaches your soul. It improves your voice voice because when you close your eyes you drown out all that is around you & begin to concentrate & really absorb what you are singing about & that comes out in your song

Yeah, and why do we close our eyes when we kiss? But then I would look pretty funny if we did both with one eye open, eh?

BECAUSE YOU'RE PRAYING nobody will notice how bad you really sound and all the crows that are dropping dead out of the trees. the truth would be too painful to bear.

you need to feel what you sing...there are too many distractions to prevent this. It helps with concentration on your technique
