Your opening sentence is also your "topic" sentence. It should give the reader the main idea to what is in the essay. Try this:
"In the world's 6.5 billion people, only about 5% of the population are true friends, and I am lucky enough to have found one."

Vividly paint a picture of the single defining moment of your friendship. Then you'll have an opening sentence and an introductory paragraph.

begin with a conversation that the two of you have shared that really meant alot to you... just with brief details and then tell why it meant so much to you and then why she is so important to you... good luck
