I LOVE THIS QUESTION.I was just talking too my son about this.He said "George Washington said NO POLITICAL PARTIES"But i think the two parties have enough cash now days too pay the media too keep other people out of office.Maybe we will get lucky and the politicians will piss off the media one day and politics will have a fair playing field! This was the best question i have seen on this sight so far.

Gross over-simplification with the electrician metaphor.
We vote for these people, but so does everyone else. So, if i want an independent candidate in the office and i go out and vote for one on election day, does that really matter? That's not factoring in gerrymandering, which effectively renders your vote moot if you don't vote with the majority in every situation, even if your vote is for one or the other major party. And, do we choose the candidates? No, the party does.
There needs to be some sort of change, but it's going to take more than voting, and anyone that proposes it with any seriousness and in the public eye will be labeled a hippie and/or an idiot by those that pay attention, accepted by a minority, and ignored by the vast majority.
So to answer your question; no, we won't.

A big problem is the average U.S. Citizen doesn't even know how to contact thier elected officials. And even if you do, a single voice is usually ignored.
To be heard you must take a public stand on issues that affect you, your family and your country. Often the only way to be heard is in numbers. Also, too many of us set back and let the "that other guy" stand alone to defend us. A lone voice simply will not be heard over the background noise of those who threaten our America.
(Remember the old saying "If a tree falls in the forrest and there's noone around to hear it; does it make a sound?)
Americans must use the same tools as it's enemy (the media) It takes large numbers to get possitive media attention.
Elected officials are policy setters that hear only the loudest voice. Remember, they should follow what they believe to be their constitiuants needs. They won't know that Americans are passionate about an issue until we take a stand!
We are organizing a non-violent public BORDER STAND on June 9th, 2007. We need a large turnout. How sad is it that illegal alliens can walk out of their illegal jobs to take a stand for rights that they don't have....But U.S. Citizens have a hard time joining together to take a STAND defending their rights, families, jobs and country?
Remember folks politicians make policy based on who makes the most (non-violent) noise!
Join us this June 9th....Be Heard Check out the websites listed in the source list below.
GOD Bless the U.S.A.

the people don't have as much power as you think "we" do. "we" can overthrow the president by signing a veto for the presidency position. since only 30% of americans support bush then the people can overthrow him. but as you see nobody is doing so simply because not a lot of people know that "we" can do that. and btw it's not really the president that's doing the bad job or the government it's CONGRESS. the president doesn't have as much power as you think. Most people view the President as the most powerful and influential person in the US government. While he does have a great deal of political power his effect on the law making process is limited. for example only Congress can write legislation the President may only recommend it. If he does so, then a member of Congress may introduce the bill for consideration. the only MAJOR power the president has is he is the commanding cheif of military among some other smaller powers. the rest it's all up to congress. so it's not the people we elect it's the people at congress that pretty much decide everything.

Isn't it interesting. It kind of reminds me of the story of the Pied Piper. They just play their little tune and the mice scurry to follow everything that they say. Most Americans are uninformed idiots. All they crave are sound bites and one liners that the media presents.
Until the public wakes up and starts thinking for themselves, they will continue to follow the pipers of the nation. Personally, anyone who will elect Ted Kennedy or Barbara Boxer has got to be brain dead. And we will live with the hypocrisy until someone comes along like Ronald Reagan to wake everyone up!
But wait...it doesn't matter what we do. The courts and the activist judges can always override what we want as a nation. So it makes no difference if Americans do wake up!!!

while your reasoning is great, you also remember that presidents are elected by the electoral college, so really we are not voting for them, we vote and whomever has the highest percentage in the state gets all the votes, that is what happened with Gore V. Bush.
Once they are in office, it is very hard to get them out, they were voted in for a set amount of time, therefore unless they seriously mess up, they will not be removed.
I will compare this to your analogy. If you hired a electrician and signed a contract that said that you were to pay him for 3 months of work, then you would pay him that much time, even if he sat on his butt the entire time. By voting for president that we all knew was a four year "contract" we pretty much resigned ourself to whom we voted for.

Many Americans forget that every action that occurs the people we voted in are the ones who vote on the actions. So any quarrels you have with how things are now think back to how you voted. If you did. And ask yourself how did I go wrong?
Isn't it funny the biggest monopoly this country has is its own government?

Trouble is, the "new people" turn out to be just as bad as those we elected in the first place. As long as we have career politicians running things, well, then, things aren't gonna improve.

Americans must elect the right people in government so that what they pay for will be compensated through good public service.

I think we all don't have much to pick from when we vote different people in office. They are all rich and out of touch with the common working man and are in office it seems for themselves (not to mention their fabulous salaries), not for America.
