I belong to a organisation and am on the committee, lately 1 member of the organisation has been insinuating that the committee have stolen funds. This is not so and all expenditures have receipts to verify them. What sort of action can I take as this kind of talk "sticks" and it is damaging to our reputations

for any slander case in aust you must prove that a/ a third party has heard or read the damaging material. b/ that the material is untrue and c/ that damage has been caused. for libel, this also pertains to written information, something on a permanent record, poster, pamphlet, website etc. Otherwise it is slander. If you can prove that you have lost business from these actions, and that the material has been reasonably believed by third parties, you can file.
