Their religion (or lack of) would have absolutely no bearing, as long as their platform was based on their religious beliefs.

In the US, Article VI of the Constitution specifically prohibits any type of religious test or oath as a condition of holding office.

I would vote for an atheist. I would prefer someone in office that was making ALL decisions based on whats best for the people of the nation. Decisions based on religion are typically based on a faith(Belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence) which is no way good for our society. Our president should make decisions based on 21st Century technology and common sense, not bronze age literature.

Yes, because religion and state should always remain separate. I'd vote for someone who believed in anything, if I thought they were logical, reasonable and had a good platform.

If, as you say I approved of their running platform, I just might. I believe strongly in separation of church and state, and can't see how religion or lack of it could affect a person's ability to to govern.

Presidents should leave behind their religion when they think anyway. The seperation between church and state would welcome an atheist president. I do not see why it would make a difference in myvoting, but i see how others could be swayed. SOme people tihnk atheism is creepy..boooo.

If not, no one would have ever voted for Abraham Lincoln, and if you accept deism as a form of atheism, then Adams, Jefferson and Madison could not have been elected either.

No, I wouldn't.

Without the grounding influence of the belief that the world's existence and human nature are the results of creative and intelligent design, I believe individuals are too prone to subjective morality which I see as a slippery slope and a very dangerous thing.

That being said, I certainly wouldn't put much stock in a candidate's simple profession of faith.

Yes - of course!!! What the hell does religion have to do with his or her ability to properly run the country?????? Actually, an atheist will probably do a better job since his reasoning is not clouded by religious beliefs.

If they believed in the rights that I believe in then for sure. I do not believe that religion should play any part in how good a leader can be. Separation of church and state.
