Iraq is an example of the Absurd. There is nothing that can be done right or wrong about it. We just need to figure out an attainable goal and do it. Saving American lives and resources? Supporting the Iraqi govt indefinitely? I don't think democrats will agree to the latter.

For any resolution to pass the House and Senate, the Democrats would need to present a unified front, or get lots of support from some Republican Congressfolk.

The most likely measure is the one proposed that links further military spending in Iraq to the mandatory withdrawal timeline. Bush then has two options -- accept the money and comply with the timeline, or refuse the money and be forced to withdraw the troops now.

Or Bush could try the third option, take the money and ignore the Congressional mandate, and thus violate the law again. But it's debatable how many more times Congress will let him do that.
