Keep in mind that being fat, is not necessarily being ugly. Many fat people have beautiful faces. You can change fat, but you can not change ugly without cosmetic surgery.

Newscasters must be considered attractive by the TV Station in order to be there. Remember that some of the things that they report are not the truth so they try to enhance believability by giving you a smile or small talk between one or another. Before they go on the air, they are told, "Here's what you're going to tell them tonight". The network wants attractive people there as an enticement for people to watch there newscast.

I was actually in broadcasting for a little while. Mostly radio, but one instructor I had at the school I attended, told one girl that she was too ugly to be a news anchor. Yeah, it hurt her feelings and it was a rude remark, but that is the type of people they want on thier newscasts. They say it attracts more viewers to have them be skinny and somewhat attractive.

Not often.

Oprah Winfrey started out as a newscaster, though, when she was a nobody and was large-sized.

It's not strange, though. Stations want someone with a certain "look," and frankly ,some larger-sized people may be darn fine broadcast journalists, but are generally not sought out for their attractiveness. I'm not saying it's "right," but I'm not saying it's strange, either.

Yea there's really no overweight people in TV news. And it's really not strange at all since it's become so competitive now trying to get ratings and profit from news shows. I would think this is the case especially for women anchors.

There are several overweight people who are newscasters on my local Birmingham, Alabama stations. Funny, but I never seem to notice their size, but I do notice their beautiful speaking voices and their ability to report the news.

Strange? No. The whole country is biased against overweight people. Look at Hollywood. You can't get a job if you're ugly.

I don't really think it's so much strange than sad and typical of our society.

The only overweight people I've ever seen on the news have been weather forecasters.

Now that you mention it, I rarely see them as well. I see a lot of just "average" people.
But, now that I think about it, there is one reporter here, In Massachusetts, that is on the heavier side and he covers the political aspect of the news.
