I have heard that University of Phoenix is not really respected by employers. That's just what I've heard here. You can perhaps get an associate degree in early childhood education from a local community college, and some are offering courses to put towards a certificate as an instructional or teacher aide due to the No Child Left Behind law which requires teacher aides to have had certain classes or such. I would check with your state as to requirements for employment as a teacher aide (they may call it 'instructional aide' in the public school system) for your region.

I have a friend who did an AS there. He's in education, but I don't think he's a teacher. He told me that UoP is seen as a joke by most people - especially those who went to a more traditional school.

Spend a few extra months and go to your community college. Your network will be larger, you can be proud of your school, you will have more access to recruiters, and you will be a stronger candidate for a good Bachelor's program some day.

Another reason is tuition and fees cost. You will likely save 75% on your tuition at a community college. UoP tuition can be a real monster to pay back - especially on a Teacher's Aide salary!
