HI!

I'm usully VERY careful with eating in bed. I never do it. Well tonight tired and depressed, I decided to eat a small piece of chocolate cake in bed. I accidentally dropped my fork & got chocolate cake on my WHITE down comforter. I don't know how to get the spots out. Will bringing it to the drycleaner get it out? THANNKS!!

use some stain spray ( i like spray and wash)on it, then take it to the laundrymat (with a pile of magazines- this is going to take awhile)

wash it in a high capacity front loading washer. if your laundrymat has that special thingy that's like a turbo spin cycle to get the extra water out- use it. now the rough part- the thing needs to be dried for a few hours. even when it feels dry-like after 45 minutes- it is not dry enough. you really want it to be TOTALLY dry because down smells like poopy diapers when it's damp!

check the stain before it goes into the dryer- if stain spray doesn't get it all the way out, put some bleach into a tiny cup and dilute it half and half with water. then take a q-tip or couple and dab/roll it across the spot. watch the stain disappear before your eyes- it is going to turn a little purplish, but don't worry- it will rinse out. depending on the size of the stain, you might have to re-wash it- or you might be able to get away with just rinsing that section.

the most important thing is to dry it for several hours or you WILL be smelling something yucky for a few days!

good luck!

I love down comforters and have several of them. Over the years I have learned the hard way that they can not be washed. The feathers are to dense to dry all the way and will clump up. The damp feathers over time will mildew and smell horrible and then it is too late - you will have to trash it.

Your best bet it to take it to the cleaners. Be sure to show them the stain and let them know what it is so that they can properly treat it.

Do not use baby wipes on anything white because they will leave a yellowish stain on the fabric, even after washing - learned this the hard way also!

You may want to purchase a Duvet cover for your comforter to help prevent stains like this and to keep other odors off of it. You can purchase a duvet cover online or at Target, Linen's N Things, or Bed Bath and Beyond. They are a good investment. If you decide to purchase one I would recommend also buying the clips to help keep the corners in place - they work great and you can't even tell that they are there!

Good Luck - I hope this helps!

Take it to the cleaners and say one of your kids dropped a chocolate cupcake on it. (that excuse sounds cuter!) Yeah, they can get it out. Do not get it wet and take it to them first thing tomorrow morning! Leave it to the pros. Note to self: buy chocolate brown duvet cover...
