hi ashley! u can unplug safely as long as ur ipod is *not* flashing the "do not disconnect" message. if it is flashing the "do not disconnect" message, then open itunes and right-click on ur ipod icon and click "eject" - then unplug it!

here's some info about this on the apple website: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61685

once u get ur ipod unplugged safely, please subscribe to my FREE video podcast on iTunes: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=183309259

Yea..I did that once and some stuff got mixed up(ie wrong pic. for wrong song). But that was happening when it was updating stuff. But if the iPod screen what a battery image or the main menu, then you can just unplug it. If not, then just go to the left side of itunes where all the playlist are, where the ipod line is, go to the end and click the eject logo, then you can unplug it..

If that goes wrong (highly unlikely) and your iPod DOES get ruined all you have to do is restore it and just install it all over again. Nothing REALLy bad will happen. If it does, go on the apple site and call apple.

It's rare that it gets ruined but you have to take extra precautious measures by pressing the "eject" icon on your Itunes or the thing at the bottom of your screen that tells you to eject the thing. And then it will safe it is safe to do so. Good luck! ;-)

in iTunes, next to where you iPood shows up in the list pane on the left, there's an eject icon. Click on it. Your iPood should show the menu screen and you can unplug it. But iPoods suck...
