As a person running family business and managing it for atleast 15years, we incountered people like this, Some are very indeed well established and considered cream dela cream in the social world and most of them are custumer for their making believed.

Some are famous rich politicians with yesterdays dark life of which the social world has actually known the truth, In fact I know one couple who really had a success on this crimes currently playing a king and queen of one of the famous kingdom of europe and they had themselves the politicians under their feet they just kill a famous princess in 1960s the world had knowned it and at this moment they are respected by european authorities.

well, paranoia normally stems from a traumatic incident.

for example, a person who watches a pack of wolves eat a living human in a forest of fir trees may develop a paranoid fear of pine trees simply because his mind associates pine trees with a wolf attack.

also, some people are paranoid in the sense that they always expect bad things to happen to them. this can be due to social conditioning, basically the 'touch wood' idea taken to a whole new level.

as to whether paranoia is fashionable, i can hardly think of a reason for it to be.
unlike having specific phobias, which does seem to be in these days, probably thanks to the tv series monk, paranoia is not really in fashion right now.

Paranoia is a behavioral disorder. Paranoiacs may be schizophrenic or have similar disorders.Is it fashionable to be mentally ill? I doubt it. Is it fashionable to have a debilitating disability? Definitely not.
