--I started at about the same time!
--Tumbling other than rolls, head stands, back flip off a diving board , never off the floor etc.-- I just had a terrible time tumbling. If your doing back & front flips without fear, that is great.
--Sometimes its hard to get past of fear as you grow older. YOUNG PEOPLE 8-12 are fearless!
--If your doing strength training and want to gain , don't just use isotonic but use isometric training--it can help build strength with less energy and time concentrated.

--But I loved the still rings and won my college championship on the rings in 1964.

--Almost qualified for the NCAA Championships , but I had a terrible dismount AND missed qualifiying by .01 of a point.(could not shake my fear of tumbling)
--So if you like free-ex and like to fly that's great. Tumbling is really of greatest importance, in all the events!
--Most important enjoy what-ever apparatus you compete on.
--I hardly ever thought of championship and yet I made history for my College, Northern Illinois University as the very first Gymnastics Champ in the over 100 years of University establishment. GO FOR IT! and have fun.

It's never too old for anyone to begin enjoying a new sport.

Consider though, that you will have virtually no place to practice unless you pay a pricey gym membership. You'd have to find a place that wasn't just for little kids.

And again, other than your own personal enjoyment, I know of no competitions that you would be able to qualify for on the amatuer or professional circuit. What would you do with what you've learned?

It's not about age so much as it is about training. It takes years and years and years of practice and hard work to be able to get your body to bend and to perfect certain moves. There's a great deal of discipline involved.

Maybe consider teaching it someday.

As long as you are not expecting to become olympic calaber, I say go for it! There are lots of people that learn to tumble in their teen years because of dance or cheerleading.
