I have two dress shirts and one dress pants. Also, one pair of dress shoes that I don't like and no money to buy any new clothes right now. Should I just be honest and tell them or tuff it out and try to make do the best I can? Also, no one can lend me money and I can't use my credit card.

I wouldn't tell anyone unless someone takes you aside and says that you aren't meeting the dress code. You've been hired to do a job; it's not their business, nor frankly their concern, whether or not you can afford dress clothes.

You can tough it out for a little while with what you've got. And if you have even $10-20 to spend, you'd be surprised what you can find at the local Goodwill or Salvation Army -- dress shirts for $1.99; pants for $2.99, etc. (Hey, don't scoff -- sometimes you can even find stuff with the tags still on, if that makes you feel better about it!)

If you just can't bring yourself to check the thrift stores, try consignment shops. A little pricier than thrift stores, but everything will be in like-new condition.

Oh, and you might try looking on craigslist.org for local listings. Often, people who are moving and have stuff they don't want will just post stuff to give away for free. (It may not turn out to be stuff you want, but it's free, so all it cost you was asking for details.) You could also check for stuff on ebay, but you have to be careful about knowing the sizes/measurements and being familiar with the brands or you could get into a mess with that. It also helps to buy multiple items (and especially when they're listed together) from the same seller so you can combine shipping.

:) if the concern is genuine, make the best of your existing wardrobe. I understand that its a new job. Just be honest by wearing your own clothes in different combination.Wear it even if you dont like. Its just a matter of a month, and then at the end of the month, when your salary hits your bank account, you can go and buy new clothes. Cut the credit card in 16 pieces and throw it away. If you want to use a card for online transactions, use debit cards instead. Never borrow money from banks if you really arent desperate abt it, or unless u r dying. Dont ever use credit card, if you are spend thrift like me. I am paying mine now, and its going to take me 2 years.
So friend, learn from my mistakes.

I'd say go to the thrift store and try to get stuff for like 1 and 2 dollars; a shirt, some black pants, some skirts. Just the basics. And wear the crappy shoes. Ask friends to borrow clothes until you can procure some more on your next paycheck.

Check with the local community action agency, churches or the Salvation Army. If you talk to them they may know where you can get some clothing suitable for a new job. Many times people donate wearable clothing to these organizations that are still wearable for jobs. Just a thought. Good luck.

Try to procure on loan from some friend or relative or neighbor or obtain a small short-term loan for the purpose.
