i dont know too much...but i know one of the band members died in a bus crash a long time ago so they found someone new...and Jason Newsted, a former member is now in the band Supernova. Lars is the drummer. James Hatfield is the main guy. My favorite songs are Stone Cold Crazy and Hero of the Day...Metallica is a great classic band..i reccommend you buy all of their CDs :)

Ok 1981, the band Metallica was formed
1982, Cliff Burton Became bass player
1983, Dave Mustaine was kicked out of the band, and Kirk Hammit replaced him on lead guitar,
later that year they realesed the first album Kill Em All.
1984, Metallica realesed there secand album Ride The Lightning.
1986, Metallica realesed there third album Master Of Puppets, they also toured with Ozzy, later that year, Cliff Burton was killed, when there bus crashed, and fell onto him
Jason Newsted replaced Cliff.
1988, Metallica realesed there fourth album And Justice For All.
1991, Metallica realeses there fifth album The Black Album
During the Black Album tour front man James Hetfield gets
his arm burned durning the show singing his hair.
1996, Metallica realeses there sixth album Load, they cut there hair off,
the next year they realese there seventh album Re-load.
In 1998 They realesed there eighth album garage Inc.
In 2001, Jason Newsted leaves the Band on his own terms.
During the next few years are hard for the band, James Hetfield under goes rehab.
In 2002 or 2003, Robert T ( I can't spell his last name). becomes the new bass player.
In 2003, Metallica makes a come back, they realese there ninth album St. Anger.
