The Boeing 747 has a lift/drag of about 18, and the engine thrust is about 60,000 lbs.  Thus, one engine can keep the aircraft up so long as it weighs less than about 1.08 million pounds.  The maximum takeoff weight of a 747-9 is only 970,000 pounds, so one engine can keep it aloft (if only barely, and probably only if it is one of the inner engines).

A plane can fly with no engines if wind is strong enough. Otherwise, it'd glide. the 747 shouldn't be any different... so of course it can fly with 1 =]

Yes, it's not advisable and damned hard but yes, what they do is turn it on then they hafta compensate hugely for the amount of spin it puts on the craft.
