Football can be a complicated game. I am not even going to try and explain the penalties. For someone wanting to learn, think of the game in terms of possession of the ball. Generally speaking, if a team controls the ball more than the other team, they should win.
Offense has 4 downs (plays) to gain 10 yards to keep a drive going. Usually on fourth down they will punt the ball to the other team to protect field position. The goal of every offensive drive is to score points, or take time off the clock.
A touchdown is worth 6 points. A team usually kicks the extra point to make the total 7. However if they are trailing, they may try for a two point conversion. That is much more difficult. This usually occurs late in a game.
If a drive is stopped close enough, the offense can also kick field goals for 3 points.
Defenses can score points by returning fumbles or interceptions for touchdowns or tackling the ball carrier in his own endzone for a safety for 2 points. Very rare.
Over the course of a season, usually the teams that make the playoffs have the fewest turnovers (ball control) and allow the fewest points (having the best defense).
Keep watching, it's a great game.

ok theres alot 2 cover but im only gonna tell you a small bit

the points ar scored when someone runs into the end zone which is the end of the field this is worth 6 points then you can either kick a field goal which is worth 1 more point or try to run it in again and that is worth 2 or 3 points ( its off season i can't remember any more)

you can't grab another persons face mask cus that could break that persons neck( there's alot more reasons to throw a yellow flag but i'm only gonna list the important 1s), u can only move across the line of scrimmage wen the bal moves and you only get 4 chances to get a first down and to do that u have to run or throw the bal ten yards

and i don't know the point of the game i guess to have fun but yet shove the other teams face in the dirt and win!

P.S. i hope u like the colts! represent!

player carries ball across goal line 6 points at which time either you can do a diversion were the quarter back takes the ball across the goal line or he passes to any other player who is eligible for 2 points or the may be placed upon the ground hence forth kicked through the uprights for 1 point its the offense level defense the rule is very thick rule book
