It is getting warm again and here are these slimy creatures, coming from who knows where, and they leave a trail behind them. They are disgusting. I know salt will dissolve them, but I want to know if there is anything I could put down that will prevent them?

Snail bait...

i work for a pest company and we use this little blue pellet like bait and toss it around the landscaped areas.

they like the moist and damp areas, so keep your landscape free of fallen leaves and trim over grown bushes.

and dont over water your flower beds.... doing all this shold control the amount of snails and slugs on your property.

Here is a real old fashioned remedy. You take the heads of old thistle or teasel plants when they are dry. Shake the seed heads in a bag to remove the seeds. The prickly pods that are left over, without the seeds, can be placed around the base of your plants as a barrier. The slugs have a soft body and cannot make it past or over the barrier without dying. You accomplish two things: the slugs are killed and you have gotten rid of the weed seeds from teasel and thistle.

Hi, get some play sand and put it around the plants outside, on the ground at least 5 inches up to the base of the plant, when the slugs crawl thru it it works like glass, cuts them up and kills them. You can also put out small low bowls of beer, they crawl in it and die, but the play sand is a permanent killer, plus you don't have to keep replacing so soon.

Slugs do not like copper. There is a landscape fabric made called Spin Out which is impregnated with copper. Or you could even scatter some pennies around.
